ALBUMIN

Albumin serves as the primary plasma protein in human blood and is responsible for maintaining blood's liquid nature by using osmosis to regulate fluid amounts. Albumin is administered to individuals whose natural albumin levels are lower than normal. Reduced albumin levels can be caused by a number of conditions, including ascites, Crohn's disease, extensive burns, glomerulonephritis, liver disease, malnutrition and nephrotic syndrome.
